Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ exercises) is a disorder of jaw, caused by either some orthodontic work or due to the natural shifting of teeth. If it is left unattended, it can affect several portions of the body, including neck, back, ears and head. TMJ exercises can prove to be very painful and the patient can have problems in breathing, eating and sleeping. Symptoms of TMJ exercises comprise: clicking of the jaw, problem during opening and closing of mouth, severe pain and tightness in jaw.

This article discusses some simple set of exercises, which if followed can cure TMJ exercises. If the above mentioned symptoms occur in an individual, one should try to place his tongue on the palate of the mouth. In another step, try to open the mouth as wide with no movement in the tongue. Breathe in slowly and count up to five then slowly release and repeat the count. This step should be repeated at least 10 times.

Then gently press the fist and try to open the jaw very slowly, hold it for 10 seconds and then release slowly. Keep in mind that the jaw should not click during the exercise. Make a fist and press it against the jaw on the left side. Press the fist steadily against the jaw. The muscles in the jaw should be relaxed. Stay in the position for 10 seconds and then release. Repeat the steps on the other side of the jaw. It should be repeated 1 times on both sides of the jaw.

In this other TMJ exercise, one finger should be pressed on each side of the jaw and pressed gently. Try to open the jaw gently and avoid the jaw to click. If it does, release and start all over again but this time opening more slowly. Repeat the above mentioned steps.
