Bulging Disc in Neck
When one is said to have a herniated disc, it only means that damage has been done to the person’s inter-vertebral disc that is in the spine which has resulted in it pushing into the spaces occupied by the spine in one’s back. This does not mean that there are no variations in herniated discs, no there are. These damages are separated into four different categories which are bulging disc in neck, prolapsed, extruded and sequestered discs.

What is Bulging Disc in Neck?

What then is bulging disc in neck? This is said to be a condition in which the weakness of a spine in one’s back results in the appearance of a little bulge outside the disc. Due to the fact that the bulging disc in neck is small in size, there are usually little or no symptoms, making it impossible for one that has this condition to even notice that he or she has such ailment.

The different if Bulging Disc in Neck

What is prolapsed disc? This type of herniated disc condition shares similarity with bulging disc in neck with the slight difference being that it is larger than the bulging disc. It also has symptoms associated with it which includes but not limited to back pains.

This brings us to the extruded disc condition. This is a condition where a bulging disc tears through its outer shell, resulting in the soft gel centre being pushed into the spinal spaces. This may lead to compression of the spinal cord and the nerves which in turn will have effects like numbness, weakness and pains on the individual.

The last but not the least is the sequestered disc. This is the situation where the soft gel centre is separated from the disc and is left to float within the spinal canal.

One may ask what really the causes of a disc bulge are. Research has shown that most times, one does not understand that he or she has problem of disc bulge until the symptoms start manifesting and this has really made it difficult to track what might have led to the condition. Though, it has been confirmed that certain factors exist that may expose one to suffering from bulging disc in neck or any other type of herniated discs.

Some of these factors includes but not limited to the following:

Obesity: Research has shown that the heavier one is, the more the puts stress on his or her spinal structures.

Injury: Some people are known to have suffered herniated disc as a result of a blow to one’s back, automobile accident and falls.

Age: The more one gets older, the more worn out the person’s spinal structures get and this results in the persons discs drying out and the cartilages thinning more which finally results in one suffering back injuries or the discs becoming herniated.

Lifestyle: If one leads a life that lacks any form of exercise, the person’s spine is definitely susceptible to herniated discs condition.

There are several symptoms associated with herniated discs but are only determined by the part of the spine that suffers the injury. If the injury is within the person’s neck, then the symptoms associated with such will include feeling of pains on the chest, hands, arms and neck.

The advice is, wherever the pain is being felt, one should consult a qualified physician for a thorough check up and diagnosis.
