Glucosamine is widely used for relieving pain in joints. Actually, what is this substance? Glucosamine is a natural substance which can be found in the human body which helps the growth of cartilage in the human body. Cartilage is the connective tissue existing between the joints that connect together the joint bones. It acts like a cushion to move freely without scratches in the joint bones. With aging, the amount of glucosamine will decrease and can cause pain in the joints. So, one option to reduce the pain is to give additional glucosamine through diet. So it can be used as a supplement which increases the growth of cartilage in bones. It can show some glucosamine side effects for some individuals like diabetes patients. Therefore, self consumption without the prescription of doctor is not preferred.
It was used as a supplement from 1960 onwards. Later it has turned out to be a big market for the production and sales of the glucosamine supplements. There were no confirmations that glucosamine work perfectly. But some studies reveal that it can work as an accelerator which will increase the growth of cartilage in the human body and is effective in the case of joint pains and related problems. So it is widely used as a medicine for joint pains.
Glucosamine is present in three forms as sulfates, chlorides and N-acetyl glucosamine. Out of these three categories, sulfates are most effective. Since it is a natural substance, it can be used for everyone. But it will influence different in different patients. Maybe it is due to the genetic characteristics of the patients. In diabetic patients, intake of glucosamine should be under the control of a doctor. Otherwise it can cause glucosamine side effects. Since glucosamine is a carbohydrate it will increase the level of glucose in diabetic patients. So it should be used under prescription. Also for pregnant women’s, intake of glucosamine is prohibited. It will show some glucosamine side effects.
Over dosage can lead to glucosamine side effects. Some take a large quantity of glucosamine which will do harm more than benefits. Over dosage can lead to problems like nausea, diarrhea and soft stools. Also it is not preferred to take with the meal. But it can be taken along with soft drink.
You should take glucosamine for about four weeks to get the benefits. This is because; glucosamine will show it’s benefits after longer periods of time after intakes. If pain has stopped, don’t stop the consumption of glucosamine. Continue it for some period of time to prevent the reappearing of pain again. Also in order to get better benefits, you can take it along with other supplements like chondroitin sulfate, which is another joint pain supplement. This will increase the effect and will help to get rid of pain soon. Instead of using painkillers, it is preferred to use glucosamine. It can treat the causes of joint pain and is less in side effects. But sometimes it shows some side effects. If you have any allergic problems, especially while you eat shellfish, then it’s better not to use glucosamine. Consumption on these situations can cause glucosamine side effects. So better avoid it.
So if you are tired of joint pain and want to get rid of joint pain, the effective solution is glucosamine. But you have to consult a doctor before you start to intake glucosamine.
