The Sacroiliac joint or SI-joint for short is that joint that is found between one’s pelvic and sacrum. The movement of this particular joint is limited, but it serves a vital purpose when it comes to load from the upper body being transferred to one’s lower body. This joint acts as a shock absorber for the human spine. The dysfunction of this joint is what leads to si joint pain.
The si joint pain is often felt within the buttock or back. The pain tends to be very deep and dull. Sometimes it may even be felt within one’s groin or even the leg. The sources of the si joint pain are divided into two categories, which are the si joints hypo mobility and the si joints hyper mobility. The hypo mobility is when there is very little movement of the joints while the hyper mobility is when there is too many movements of the joints.
The si joint hyper mobility is usually experienced by young women while pregnant and even after child birth. Another instance where one suffers from si joint hyper mobility is when asymmetric or abnormal forces are applied to the person’s lumbar and hip area. This may even lead to one suffering torn ligaments within the joint.
Going through programs organized for the stabilization and strengthening of spinal and pelvic muscles is a treatment for si joint pain that is known to work very well. Those persons suffering from si joint dysfunction are advised to go for training based on stabilization of the lumbar spine which is known to be a combination of safe and effective various exercises.
Most of the exercises aimed at relieving one of si joint pain concentrates more on strengthening one’s pelvic floor muscles, diaphragm, deep back and other inner units of the human body.
The other muscles of the body that will also be strengthened in the process of this exercise includes but not limited to the obliques, erector spinae, gluteus medius and the maximus muscles. These muscles are known as the outer unit muscles, and they carry out the functions of helping to transfer loads within one’s pelvic region making use of rotational movements, which include walking. Other muscles that need to be exercised are the hip rotators, adductors and abductors. This is necessary to ensure that the pelvic girdle functions properly during activities like standing and walking.

The instructor will aim more on correcting the person’s patterns of compensation and the problems originating from it. The person will become more aware of certain parts of the body that needs correction of postural habits applied to them as far as one’s daily activities are concerned.
